Please Rewind explores the traces that human beings unconsciously leave behind on media objects. The work takes videotapes from Centro Kim’s archive that have not been rewound; capturing the precise frame where the tape had last been stopped after viewing. These frames were then turned into animated gifs and projected inside an abandoned building in Salemi, which has never been completed, but contains traces of human presence, or, perhaps more precisely, absence. Through this juxtaposition of the Kim’s archive with the material spaces of the city, this project aims to examine the “frozen” dimensions of both.
